The ActiveMath Main Page

After successful login or registration ActiveMath again presents its main page to you.
As you may notice ActiveMath adresses us with the name we specified in the registration form (Demoguide user). Also we now have access to all items in the menubar except the first one, which is the link to the main page, where we are already.

And now we're going to create a personal book.

The creation of a personal book is divided into several steps.
In the first step you choose the area you are interested in. The areas you can choose from depend on the installation of ActiveMath. We select, for example, the area Differentiation Content by clicking on the radio button to the left of it (see image). If it isn't available in your ActiveMath installation simply choose another one.

Then click on the Next button.

This is the second step of the book creation.
Here, you decide for the type of book (for instance, whether you want to prepare for an exam or discover a topic in depth). The type of book depends on you learning goals. If you want to learn content you have never heard of, select the book type "Discover". This book wil contain everything you need to get a first understanding of the content. Click on "Next" to continue.

In the third step, you need to select the content. You can select chapters or sub-chapters. Click on the triangles to browse through the table of contents. Navigate through the content by clicking on the triangles/ headings until you find find the topics you want to learn about. It is best if you go down to the lowest level of chapters and thus select only a few concepts. You should generate small books that only contain what you currently need. If it turns out that some content is missing, you can simply generate a new book. Here, first let's click on "Introduction to Differential Calculus". bookcreation misc image
Now let's select the "Derivative Function". Then, click on "Next". bookcreation misc image

On the final page, you can add a title and description to your book. To start the book creation, click on "Next". Now, ActiveMath generates your book. This may take a little time, but is worth waiting for.

Let's have a look at the generated book. Because we have a low knowledge, a lot of prerequisites are included in the book. Additionally, all examples and exercises are selected according to what we know. Because this is a personal book, you can modify it, so let's do it.

Adding content
Scroll down a bit to the "Definition of a cluster point" (or another definition). Click on its title. In the menu, select "More Content", and then "Illustrate" (these menu entries only appear if there is appropriate content available). A new window will open now.

Adding content, part 2
The new window that opened contains an example selected with respect to what you have already learned and seen in ActiveMath. If you like the example, click on "Add to page". Now have a look at the course page. You will see that the item was added below the definition. If you don't like it anymore, you can use the item menu to remove it from the book (or any other item). They are not deleted completely, only from your book.
