Welcome to the ActiveMath Demo Guide!

These pages will show you around in ActiveMath and provide you with a first overview on its features. Please keep in mind that ActiveMath is an evolving system: new features are added, other features are changed. Therefore the screenshots may differ from what you really see.

The First Contact

This is the ActiveMath main page.

The main page is divided in two areas:
In the upper area you see a menubar, which can be used to start some tools like the search tool and to return to the main page.
In the lower area the content available in this ActiveMath version is shown. ActiveMath uses a book metaphor which means that each course is shown as a book in the main menu.

For now we aren't logged in to the system. We are so called anonymous users. This anonymous usage yields some disadvantages namely that ActiveMath cannot be adapted to your preferences and knowledge. It is also not possible to create personalized books which contain only the subjects we are interested in. So we would have to login to get full access to the system, but we are going to do this only a bit later. ActiveMath mainpage with login marked image

On the mainpage we see two areas in which our book (the courses) are listed.
In area A we have the Prerecorded Books and in area B our Personal Books are listed.
The content of a prerecorded book is prescribed completely by the author of the book. We open a book by clicking on its bold printed booktitle.
In personal books we decide ourselves which subjects should appear in our book. As said above we aren't logged in to the system. This is the cause why no books are listed in area B. We have to login first and create our own book. How this is done we'll see in chapter Creating Personal Books.

And now let's have a look on how such a prerecorded book is presented in ActiveMath. Click here for the next part of the demo guide.
